Every spring and early summer, the Legendary Back Bowls and Blue Sky Basin transform from a winter playground into legendary wildlife habitat during elk calving season. In partnership with the United States Forest Service, the Back Bowls and Blue Sky Basin will be closed from May 6th to July 1st. Thanks for your cooperation during this closure. (2023-05-04)

Vail Mountain owes much of its history to the fabled 10th Mountain Division, an elite group of mountain warfare light infantry that trained at the nearby Camp Hale National Monument. Members of the 10th Mountain Division served during World War II. Have you ever slid down Riva Ridge? This signature trail is named after the infantry’s best-known combat achievement on Riva Ridge in the mountain of Northern Italy in 1945. Celebrating our Active Duty, Retired and Veteran military community doesn’t stop at trail names or celebrations like Legacy Days.
